Background

JCI Lantau is an affiliated Local Organization (“LOM”) of JCIHK. JCIHK and the local chapters are all non-profit organizations. The members are between the age of 18-40, who make full use of their leisure hours to work for the betterment of the community and themselves. Our 2024 and 2025 slogan, "One Team One Dream," resonates deeply with the spirit of unity and collective effort within the JC movement. We recognize that success is not only achieved individually but through the collaborative endeavors of all members working towards a common objective.

First half of 2026

JCI Lantau 2026 First Quarter Journey

We held our Inauguration Ceremony on 12 January 2026 at the start of a brand new chapter year. The Director of Immigration, Mr. Kwok Joon-fung Benson, IDSM, attended as our guest of honor to witness the new Board of Directors take office. Our board members performed a special musical piece to highlight the evening and showcase our team spirit. Our theme for the year is "In Faith We Carry On", which guides our efforts to build a prosperous year for the chapter while encouraging every member to stay resilient and motivated in their personal growth. Strengthening Member Bonds We organized active programs to keep our members engaged throughout the first three months.

Muay Thai Session: In February, members participated in a high intensity Muay Thai workout. This session challenged us physically and mentally, and it strengthened our bond as we actively engaged with each other. We showed great discipline by attending this training right after a long day of work. This energy proves that our members value physical health as much as leadership development.

Lunar New Year Gathering: We celebrated the festive season with a relaxing greeting gathering. This allowed members to have a moment to recharge after project plans and catch up with friends. Such gatherings are vital for maintaining a supportive network within the chapter. They give you the chance to share ideas in a casual setting before the busy project season begins.

Taiko Blast: Our March MFG was a traditional Japanese drumming session in March. Everyone joined this rhythmic activity and experienced Japanese traditional culture before ASPAC. The event built strong camaraderie through music and laughter. The powerful rhythm of the drums required perfect timing and cooperation. It was a unique way for the leadership team to practice working in harmony while learning about different cultural traditions. Serving the Lantau Community Our flagship project, Sustainable Lantau, reached the local community through the Mui Wo Photography Trail, which included both a workshop and the trail itself.

Photography workshop: Participants learned portrait skills and were equipped with basic photography skills for the trail. By learning these technical skills, you are better prepared to tell the story of our community through visual media.

Photography Trail: Participants captured the natural landscapes of Mui Wo and their enthusiasm showed a deep appreciation for the environment.

We also met with local residents in Mui Wo and they expressed interest in the projects and mission of JCI Lantau.

While taking photos, we met an NGO from Sham Shui Po and gained valuable insight into home based elderly care during the meeting by chance. This unexpected encounter reminded us of the diverse needs in our society. It inspired us to think about how JCI can bridge gaps between different districts and social services.

These activities in the first quarter set a positive tone for the rest of the year. We will continue to serve our members and the Lantau community with energy and faith. We look forward to achieving even greater milestones with you in the coming months.

Second half of 2026

Empowering Youth, Preserving Nature, and Driving Community Impact

As we stride through 2026, JCI Lantau continues to ignite positive change across our community, orchestrating initiatives that combine environmental sustainability, cultural appreciation, and member development.

Flagship Success: Green Lantau Photography Competition

Empowering Youth, Preserving Nature, and Driving Community Impact

Highlighting our flagship initiatives, Sustainable Lantau: Green Lantau Photographic Trail Cum Photo Competition (可持續大嶼:《綠「嶼」「攝」蹤》攝影比賽) captured the harmonious blend of Lantau’s breathtaking ecology and human stories. Following intense deliberations on Judging Day, the awards ceremony took place on 27 June at Graham Hall, Central. Featuring over 150 remarkable entries, the event was honored by Guest of Honour, Hon Andrew Lam Siu-lo, SBS, JP, the member of Legislative Council, who shared invaluable insights on "Development in the North, Conservation in the South." The exhibition successfully raised public awareness on sustainable growth and received prominent media coverage in AM730. Action-Driven Environmental Stewardship True to our eco-commitment, JCI Lantau spearheaded dynamic green actions. On 25 May, members kayaked to a remote beach in Mui Wo for an ocean cleanup, embracing the inspiring mindset: "Though marine waste is infinite, every collective effort makes it Infinity minus 1."

Building on this momentum, we established a strategic partnership with the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong. Following a fruitful collaboration meeting on 23 July, we organized a Ghost Net Cleanup at San Tau, Tung Chung on 9 August, successfully removing over 200 kg of abandoned ghost nets to protect marine ecosystems. District Connections & Cultural Heritage JCI Lantau actively deepened its local roots and cultural outreach. Our Honorary Secretary Eric attended a visit to Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works upon invitation by the Islands District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee, forging stronger community partnerships.

Empowering Youth, Preserving Nature, and Driving Community Impact

On 24 June, our delegation attended the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Hong Kong Lotus Exhibition at Po Lin Monastery, Ngong Ping, and met with the Venerable Abbot. Furthering our cultural scope, on 4 August, members gathered at HKIA for the "Culture and Arts 2026: HK & Shanghai Twin Cities" exhibition, exploring shared urban heritage. Fellowship & Dynamic Youth Leadership Member engagement remained vibrant through energetic fellowship. On 27 April, members bonded over an exhilarating Pickleball session, while our team passionately participated in the JCIHK Sports Day on 1 May, displaying outstanding sportsmanship. Most notably, we celebrated a significant chapter milestone as four new members simultaneously took their induction oath, injecting fresh energy, talent, and passion into the JCI Lantau family. These inspiring moments continue to strengthen chapter cohesion and empower our young leaders.

Moving forward, JCI Lantau remains dedicated to driving sustainable impact, nurturing young leaders, and serving as a shining beacon for Lantau!
